ALPHA 0.0.3


Hello, I am Mr. Thyme, and I welcome you to my journey of making the best 3D platformer ever (no bias)

I would like to talk a lot about what I added and then a little about my plans for this game. 0.0.3 adds a bunch of juice like sounds and particles, but the main attraction is of course level 3 and the switch. The switch is stolen from inspired by Super Mario Maker On/Off blocks. I have a lot of experience with that game, and On/Off blocks are one of my favorite things it has, although weirdly I haven't seen anything equivalent to them in any other platformers out there. A lot of the stuff I add has obvious inspirations to a lot of games I like, such as ULTRAKILL, Geometry Dash, and even Minecraft, and this is a great addition to all of the previous mechanics. I really like when mechanics being introduced can build on each other, so I design most of these platformer obstacles/tools around synergizing with each other. You can see it yourself when you play level 3, but what I did that Mario Maker didn't was make red/blue versions of other objects, namely ropes and spikes. That and objects attached to switch blocks deactivating when their color is toggled off makes this a mechanic that synergizes with everything else added so far, and I find that very satisfying. I also added a cool Isometric pause screen thing, which I am very proud of.  The Reset and End buttons are very helpful, and the "idk yet lol" button will probably be an exit level function or something, but I don't know for sure yet. I really liked the pause screen background from Mario 64 being the level from a different angle, and I did something similar with the pause background although it's centered on the player instead of the level structure. The level structure wouldn't work all the way because leap levels are very disorganized, especially compared to Mario 64, and also I think it's really cool I can make the Rabbit(?)'s eye follow your cursor a little.

Now as far as game plans:

I have a lot of ideas, and I don't want to promise too much for right now because feature creep is the killer of cool games, but I will be finishing a total of 5 levels as well as adding some extra juice features. once the first 5 levels, or "World 1" is complete, I will switch from alpha to beta for versioning because I think it's cool to think about that stuff, and I cannot promise a World 2 but I very much want to make one as of writing this.
